2010 Albemarle-Chowan Watershed & Rivers Day
 
Debbie Jeter of Bear Path Acres Animal Education Center educates youth on exotic reptiles and animals
The Rivers Day program was held on July 22, 2010 in Franklin at Barrett’s Landing. Thirty-two youth participated in the event. The youth that participated came from Paul D Camp College’s Summer Camp Program and Boys and Girls Club in Franklin. Students participated in learning activities at eleven stations. Those stations included learning about soils, fish and wildlife, forestry and extension, animals, and water quality. Some youth also had an opportunity to go fishing and take a river cruise. All youth were able to take home a backpack that included craft kits to further enhance their learning about natural resources and the environment.
2009 Albemarle-Chowan Watershed & Rivers Day

The Albemarle-Chowan Watershed Roundtable held its 2nd Annual Rivers Day event on June 6, 2009. Thirty participants attended and took part in the fishing tournament and met with exhibitors from environmental agencies. Our sponsors and exhibitors included the City of Franklin, Virginia Game & Inland Fisheries, Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation, Chowan Basin SWCD, Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program, and Virginia Cooperative Extension.
Old Dominion RC&D Council Water Quality Presentations
 
Dave Roberts, RC&D Coordinator for Old Dominion RC&D Council gives a water quality presentation to 8 teachers during a teacher in-service day at the Lunenburg High School
The Old Dominion RC&D Council gave two water quality presentation to teachers and students at the Lunenburg High School and Nottoway High School. The presentations included using water testing kits to test water for dissolved oxygen, biological oxygen demand, pH, phosphate, nitrate, coliform, and turbidity. The purpose of the presentations was to explain to the teachers how they can incorporate water quality and watersheds into their curriculum. Evirothon Team students at Nottoway High School participated in running water quality tests during the presentation. The water testing kits were provided with funding from the Albemarle-Chowan Watershed Roundtable and Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
South Hampton Roads RC&D Council Watershed Awarness Workshop
 
South Hampton Roads RC&D Council held a Watershed Awareness Workshop on November 18, 2008 in Suffolk, VA. This workshop was made possible due to grants funds the Albemarle-Chowan Watershed Roundtable received from Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation. Over 55 participants attended the workshop at the Tidewater Agricultural Research & Extension Center. Workshop attendees were given an overview of watershed awareness, land preservation, tax credits, and conservation easements/programs. A testimonial was also given by a farmer who has utilized cost share programs to make improvements to his farm operation. Presenters that participated in the workshop were the City of Virginia Beach, Virginia Outdoors Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Virginia Cooperative Extension.

2008 Albemarle-Chowan Watershed & Rivers Day

The Albemarle-Chowan Watershed & Rivers Day event was held on April 19, 2008. The event was an awareness day program to focus on educating the public about watershed awareness. Over 100 participants participated in the event including 50 youth. The City of Franklin Department of Recreation sponsored a youth fishing tournament. Twelve exhibitors from local, state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, local governments and industry participated in the event as well.
